Adam and Kris...Kris and Adam...this is THE longest blog. Sorry!!!
Tonight was wonderful, exciting and completely confusing.
I am in LA attending the wonderful finale events that tend to make me smile even when I'm not feeling well. (Boo!)
Of course, I was pumped to catch up with all my Idol friends last night and then attend the show tonight.
More details on all of that when I get home...although I do need to mention that when I walked in and got to hug Renee and Agent Pierce from 24, I almost forgot how I felt and just wanted to scream at the top of my lungs!!!!! Jesus really loves me for setting that up!
So, as I download Ruben Studdard's new CD and Lakisha Jones' new CD...BOTH came out TODAY (Buy them, buy them, buy them)...I will fill you in on what I thought about tonight's show.
Now, I've been doing press all day and I've been saying I think Kris is going to take it all the way. Although, I am head over heels for Adam's voice...DUDE! It's awesome. That being said...after watching tonight's show in the beautiful Nokia Theater...I have absolutely NO idea who's taking this crown home. I really feel like tonight evened the playing field for both of them...all thanks to that last song!
First Round totally went to Kris for me, but that was after pulling a Kara and not being able to close my mouth for the entire Adam performance of Mad World. Both performances were golden, but Kris put a little extra feeling in his that just blew me away,
Second Round went to Adam. I was totally with Simon on that act. Although I loved Kris' song, Adam just completely owned his. It was breathtaking...seriously!
Third Round...Ummm....nobody. That's all I'm saying about that one. Well, maybe I'll mention one thing. One of my best friends, Kelley, mentioned that maybe this was more of a Danny Gokey song and I agree. Danny could have sung the living daylights out of that. Yep, I said it. See, I really do like Danny...promise!
So...that means that in true "America's Next Top Model" form, we have to look back at all their previous pictures, I mean performances, to see who comes out on top. The key to my notes...Adam performances on top, Kris on bottom, stars by the one I think was best that night. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion and I have been wrong before...not often...but once or twice. :-)

Although Adam is the most flawless singer ever on AI, Kris shows so much heart in each of his songs. Too hard...must sleep on this one...This SOOOO reminds me of Reuben and Clay. Wow! Awesome end to an amazing season.

Melinda, what I love about you is that you still care so much about the show! Well, that's just one of the MANY things I love about you..but seriously! You even went back and ranked their old performances. You go girl!

I don't know who will win either, but I feel like I was this unsure for David VS David too. Hmm.
It's tough to say. Kris is an amazing artist, Adam is an amazing singer. The thing is, I could only listen to Adam if it was a small set, I don't think I could really listen to him sing an entire concert. Kris, on the other hand, well...I imagine I'll buy his album and listen to it over and over because his voice is just so soothing.
Who will win? Who knows. That last song was dreadful, though. I mean...wow. I think if they had picked that song, the first words out of the judges mouths would've been, "Poor song choice."

Melinda-you are too funny...I think and hope that Kris will end up taking it-he will get all of Danny's votes, so I think that will put him over the edge...Don"t get me wrong, it will be close, but in the end, (and tell me that 19 has nothing to do with the winner...)Kris will win because he is more marketable and radio friendly. I think that Kris needs the win to be successful and if Adam wins it will "tie him up" to much-you'll see,he'll be relieved to not win. Of course, these are just my opinions-I have only been wrong once...so we'll see if my record holds...

I just love the way your mind works - you fascinate me! However, I had to post something here as I "take issue" with one thing you said:

YOU were the MOST flawless singer, EVER, on AI AND YOU always (and still do) show the most heart <3 !!!

Ah, ahhemmmm, and although Kara has grown on me some, her song definitely didn't. I don't think Danny could have sung it any better and I'm wonderin' what even you coulda done with that!?
I think either Adam or Kris can win and both deserve to win. So, Que Sera, Sera...I just want to keep hearing YOU sing! Got it?!

His last song was pretty pitchy that the reason Simon didn't comment about his song. I think Randy did his work to tell him that was not the best. I wishing them good luck both of them. Adam is far from the most flawless singer. I think he screams way too much. When I think of males hitting high notes I think of Rascal Flatts. The lead singer hit those high notes and sounds great. He doesnt scream.
You are the BEST singer that show has ever seen. Everyone I know still believes you have the voice to slay anyone else.
Allison was my girl this season. I stopped watching after she left. I will probably never watch again. This show is too much about looks than singing. I hope Allison slays everyone in record sales!
OffTopic: Melinda, I'm a big fan of yours and I still think you're one of the best AI contestants ever..
OnT: I'm rooting for Adam..I think he deserved the title more than Kris, just basing on their overall performance on the entire season..I guess, if not for "Heartless" hype, Kris wouldn't even be in the top 2..

What is it about Adam that you like? His technique is really, really bad. I am surprised that someone as technically skilled as you are, does not immediately recognize the poor vowels and the nasally, shaky vibrato he uses.
For me, Adam is a fun entertainer on Idol that boosts the ratings and creates a good TV show. He's Blake Lewis, Clay Aiken, David Archuleta, or (dare I say it) Taylor Hicks. His act is a gimmick that becomes exposed when he can't do the screechy thing to a song.
Kris is the most marketable of the contestants. He reminds me of Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Eric Hutchinson, and James Taylor. I was shocked when the judges did not appreciate his version of the Marvin Gaye song. I thought it was brilliant and certainly more in tune than either of Adam's previous two performances.
Kara's song was obviously written for a soul singer like yourself, Taylor Hicks, or Danny Gokey. The words were silly and the melody spanned an enormous range. Kris could sing neither the low notes nor the high notes (in Eb, down a third from screechy Adam). Adam could "sing" the high notes, but his intonation was horrible.
My prediction is Adam wins, much to my chagrin. However, Kris and Allison are the two people we hear from a lot in the future. Allison was a monster singer and she will make a great pop-rock album. Kris will easily add an alternative voice to the Jason Mraz genre, but toss in his country twang a little. Danny (my favorite contestant) will probably struggle unless he picks the right songs.

I can't tell who's going to win, and I basically agree with you.
I'm not sure the judges were dead on all the time last night, as a matter of fact.
Its really close, and they're both great and so different it's really difficult to compare.
Well, friend, I almost agree with you. I haven't been a Kris fan most of the season, while he had a good voice, I don't think he's as passionate as Danny and Adam. Something about him bothers me... can't explain it.
That being said, I felt really bad for him last night. It was obvious with the final song where Kara's bias lies, and I feel like Kris paid the price. He deserved to sing a song that really fits him.
I think it's going to be Adam tonight, but I also thought that last night would be Adam and Gokey, so anything is possible.

I LOVE Adam's voice. There is no question that he is BILLIANT, but his performances seem just that performances. They seem very... superficial. He doesn't have the true heart that Kris seems to display with every song. As a vocalist myself, and a fan of many, many genres... I gotta say I'd rather hear someone who is 100% bona fide and believeable than someone who is vocally perfect 100% of the time but fakey-fakey. Adam is a performer... and Kris is Kris. We'll find out tonight what america is looking for. A performer or a feeler. Hmmmm...
Excellent point on the Danny thing! Love Danny - wish he were in the finals, and yes, he would have nailed it. That's what they get for putting the cart before the horse!
Since Season 5, AI has an invariable history now of front runners not winning the title: Chris Daughtry, you, David Archuleta, Adam Lambert. I wonder if it's because the audience does get lax and not vote for them, or if there's a relentless drive for underdogs to win. Maybe the front runners "peak" too quickly? I'm not sure. I wish you would be invited back to perform on the show as you were a spectacular testament to AI's ability to unearth talent!

for me, i must say the feeler deserved the title. Adam awed all the viewers but Kris captured the hearts of every listerners of his songs,not only the Americans but us also here in the Philippines... Hi,Melinda! I love u, and to Kris Allen,God Bless! u're my idol.
I know - I love their voices and styles so much for such different reasons...plus they both seem so nice it's hard not to want them both to win!
