Michael Jackson, the AMA's and why a horse has me seeing gray...

I have so many things to talk to you guys about! So much has happened in the past month and I have SOOOOO been wanting to know what you thought about it. So, here we go...

I saw the Michael Jackson “This Is It” Documentary! This is going to be a really short review because I have no words...All I know to say is AMAZING! Michael has always been a genius and somehow they got it on tape! WOW!
*Have you seen it? What did you think? Do you have more words than I do?

I’ve become addicted to Zumba! Not sure what it is??? It’s the most wonderful Latin/hip-hop aerobics class that makes me happy! Not sure if I’ve shared this with you guys, but I have always wanted to be a dancer. So, this allows me to dance my heart out,’s an amazing workout! I think I might audition for So You Think You Can Dance next season. I’m kidding!!!!! (Kinda)
*Is now a good time to say Ellenore and Russell are amazing on that show?!

I had my ‘official’ New York debut at the amazing Feinstein’s! DUDE! What an honor!!! I seriously had the best time. It was my first time doing a full cabaret show and I don’t know how I could have had more fun. It might help that I’m a bit dramatic. :-) A HUGE thank you to all who came and all who sent well wishes. Please continue to support wonderful places like Feinstein’s...great room, great shows, great staff and even great food!
*Will you come next time I play there???

I watched the AMA’s. Hmmm....I had a hard time with it this year. I really respected the arists that just got up there and just sang their songs even though the theme of the show seemed to be HUGE production numbers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the huge numbers. One of the artist that I think does both amazingly well is Beyonce'. I mean, she’s all over the place AND singing her tail off. Love it! However, she wasn’t performing on the AMA’s. :-) So, my favorites were Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston! Now Adam Lambert...I love what he said on Ellen. “That may not have been the best first (second) impression to give America.” Then he promptly followed that statement by singing his tail off. :-)
*I’m so curious to know what your thoughts are!!!

I also saw “The Blind Side”. If you haven’t seen it, please go! It’s such a heartwarming and powerful story. The best part is that it’s true. I’ve always been a huge fan of adoption and this movie solidified that for me! I don’t want to say too much more, just go see it. Speaking of adoption, some of you are asking what happened to the puppy I fell in love with in NY. Let me just say, I could not see paying all that for a dog when there are so many wonderful puppies waiting to be adopted. That’s my next goal and I’ll definitely keep you posted!
*Have you seen “The Blind Side”? Do you have an adoption story?

Last story: I went horseback riding because I absolutely love it and it is one of the few things that completely relaxes me. I rode the sweet, yet fearless horse named Homeboy. There, however, is one issue I have with horses. I have no fear of them, so I tend to always be standing in their way or behind them or something. I don’t normally notice until someone says something or the horse lets me know. To make a long story short, I’ll just say there was a treat situation and a horse ended up going up in the air and landing on my foot. No worries, nothing is broken. However, I am still recuperating. So, here is my disclaimer: If you see me in my gray (is it “gray” or “grey”?) UGG boots, it’s because those shoes are the only ones that don’t hurt right now. I’m so tired of wearing Gray (grey)! It’s already been 4 weeks, so I’m hoping this is over very soon. I do, however, change shoes for my shows (no pain, no gain), but my UGGs are never far... :-)

I think that pretty much fills you in on me, can’t wait to hear what you guys think on some of these!
Love you!!!

Blind Side was an amazing movie - my heart just broke when I left I knew that God was speaking to me.

Yesterday I was watching the news and the news spread for the day was "14 year old boy on trial for raping a woman and taking her weapon". I was attached to the tv to see what was being said....They showed a clip of this baby boy (my son is 14) and he looked right into the camera and my heart sunk. Such a lost boy. A lonely boy - a boy that needed someone to love him and that needed someone to raise him in a home full of love and security! The security of a stable family.

It took me back to the movie - and without giving it away - I thought how blessed Michael Oehr was. That could have been him - that could be any of us. A child, out on the street - fighting for their lives - fighting to fit in - fighting to learn - Lord knows I could go on and on. I hope that this movie touches as many people as I think it will!

Adam Lambert - needs someone to have a chat. Disgusting behavior.

I can't wait to see Michael Jackson's movie.

God bless you!

I still don't get why HIS behavior at 11PM was so disgusting if Janet Jackson mimicked a sexual act at 7PM and Eminem sang about having 17 rapes under his belt but nobody is talking about it. Do you also think Prince, Robert Plant, Madonna, etc, had ~disgusting behavior decades ago?

I took my 85 year old uncle to see This Is It at an IMAX theatre (the only way to see it) and we were both blown away. Such a testament to Michael's genius. I'd followed his career since he was 8 years old. Sigh. I think my favorite part though was when he told the blond guitar player to step it up as that was her moment to shine in the show. How generous and gracious. I felt like I knew Michael so much better when it was over. Everyone I know who has seen it, loved it.

Saw Blind Side on Sunday and yes, it is a feel good movie we can all use in these crazy times. Puts it all in perspective.

Love horses too, they are incredible soulful creatures.

Best wishes to you and your family this holiday season.

P.S. You need to come to San Diego. Check out Anthology in Little Italy. Perfect venue for you.

Good to see ya blogging. Love hearing your thoughts :)

I didn't see "This Is It"...but I wanted to. Does that count? I heard it was incredible.

I need Zumba in my life!!! I LOVE that you and Mandisa do it together. I dond't watch SYTYCD but I'm sure you'd win. I know these things.

When I get a real job and make real money, I will try to see you as much as I can. For now, I'm enjoying reading the AMAZING reviews you have been getting. Seriously. So proud of you!!!!

I also had a hard time with the AMA's. Kelly was my fave (duh). She blew everyone else out of the water, if you ask me. Also, the song Whitney Houston performed reminded me immediatley of you. IMMEDIATLEY.

As far as Adam...female performers do stuff like that ALL THE TIME on TV and no one cares. Adam does it and it's the scandal of the year. I did like his statement on Ellen, and his cd is awesome, so as far as I'm concerned the AMA's are a thing of the past.

I want to see Blind Side SO badly! I know I'd love it. Omg, you should totally adopt a dog. I don't have an adoption story other than the fact that I consider all my students my adopted little siblings.

Your gray ugg boots are my favorite shoes of yours...and yes I realize how creepy that statement was. YIKES about the horse. Hope you're feeling better.

Re: adoption! I adopted my son who is 2 1/2 and it's the best thing my husband and I ever did. If it's in your heart, don't hesitate to go forward with it because it is such a blessing. I couldn't imagine my life without my son. I've also met some incredible women through my adoption support group.
I hope one day you'll pursue that dream!
Take care!

I plan to see The Blind Side on Saturday. I'm sure I will love it.

As for adoption stories, the dog I had as a kid was adopted from the pound. My sister and I named him Oliver (after Oliver Twist) because he was an orphan. Best dog ever! He had an insatiable curiosity about other animals. My mother once took him to the zoo and he walked right up to the lion cage. The lion roared at him but he enjoyed teasing the big kitty. We took him to a friend's house that had lots of hamsters and he thought it was great entertainment to watch the hamsters all night. We took him to my Grandmother's house and he stole a live chicken from the next door neighbor's yard. The only one he would give it to was my Grandma - guess he was trying to tell her he wanted fried chicken for dinner! We took him boating on the lake and he saw a loon dive underwater. When we reached that location he jumped out of the boat after it. Surprised the heck out of us because he was scared of the water. Oliver would go up to any animal (cows, turkeys, otters, skunks, snakes, etc) except Clydesdales. We took him on a hayride once and he was fascinated by the big Clydesdales but was smart enough to be scared of them. Ahem, unlike some people!

Will I come if you play Feinstein's again? Oh, hell yeah!

I loved "This Is It!" I saw it twice. It's so fascinating. It gave me even more of an appreciation for Michael Jackson's talent, and it's also inspiring.

I also love Zumba! My mom and I go on Mondays. She had to convince me to try it because I was embarrassed of my horrible dancing, but now I don't even care because it's so much fun.

Congrats on your shows at Feinsteins! I know they were amazing. I hope I can make it next time; I've always wanted to visit NYC. I'm still patiently waiting for you to come do a show in Las Vegas. : )

I really want to see The Blind Side. I love what you said about the dog and adoption. Can't wait to hear more from you on that. That is a cause close to my heart since I do rescue.

Thanks for another great blog. Love you!

It is best that you didn't get the puppy. It is better not to support the pet stores since no reputable breeder would sell their puppies to one (most come from puppy mills, ask Sara about this). And even though "Pepper" needs a home, he will find a home with someone nice. If you are traveling a lot, a dog is probably not for you. It is even hard to go away and leave cats for many days. Or had you planned to buy an expensive designer pet carrier and tote him around with you on your trips like one of those Hollywood starlets? :)

I really liked Adam Lambert on the AMA's. It didn't bother me at all. The mock "act" was really quick and performers mock sexual acts on stage ALL the time through various moves and gyrations. Do you need more details on specific moves? Ha ha! I feel most (not all) are just bugged (or thrown off) because he is gay and some of his mock acts were with other dudes (and the guy he "made out" with was really sorta androgynous). If it was all clearly hetero, no one would hardly care nor notice. I don't find him being in anyone's face about his sexuality anymore than any straight performer of that ilk. He's just being Adam . .a somewhat outrageous and dramatic guy proud and open about his sexuality. As Pink would say .."So what".

Megan mentioned Whitney. .kinda surprised she got no attention for her "comeback" with the grammy noms last night. I enjoyed her on the AMA's too. I always think when I hear her sing that I would love to hear how you would do it and she's not going up so high anymore. .

It was terrific seeing you at Feinstein's. Wonderful venue for you. It was great being there on Saturday night with the full house. You're such a sweetie and always so generous with your time. Much love!!

And yes, adoption is a beautiful BEAUTIFUL thing. Every single day I see the promise it can bring to a child born into unfortunate circumstances. Will have to catch the movie.

Love always, Donna/OS!

Angela will definitely go see Blind Side, Sunday, still debating Precious. Yes I saw this is it and Michael was going to go out in a big way and the enemy stiffled it through deception and greed on Dr. Murray's part. Sometimes popularity and money can allow us to gain things some of us have to wait for or delay which in some cases is lethal. Michael was I believe falsely accused and bruised so severely that the addiction became his source to survival; however with the veil of deception through denial - he overlooked the fact that in the human flesh dwells no good thing. I often wonder why we have to mortify the deeds of the body daily, but I keep living and I understand the enemy attacks only to distract, and to ultimately put us on our back like Michael, may he now finally rest in peace. May we love, live and give like he did with the gifts he shared with us all. Be blessed Melinda.

Loved your show at Feinstein's! Can you tell?

As for adoption, I'm a huge adocate of it also and my family is about to embark on a major one. I hope it becomes reality before Christmas.

And Adam Lambert... let's just say I wasn't impressed. Ha, ha...

I hope you do more cabaret. A venue like Feinstein's is perfect! Love you more after every performance... and you can be as dramatic as you want. Okay by me!

I did see "This is it"; MJ had such talent! And the show would have been incredible. It was interesting to see how everything fit together, from the singing, to the setting, down to the timing of the lights and other special effects.

Didn't see the Blind Side movie; want to when I have the time!

Great job at the Scott Hamilton Show in LP! If you wish to see photos (and read my review) check out

Best wishes and Happy New Year!

The movie " Blind Side", had a special meaning to my family and myself. We adopted a three brothers in 2005. I had them set down and watch the movie I thought it would be inspiring to them also.
About the Ronald McDonald house I certaintly agree in support to them. My husband and I stayed at one in Minnesota when our middle child was in the hospital. What a wonderful place to stay when our child had surgery.

You are an amazing singer. I could not believe my ears when I first heard you sing on American Idol. You were the only reason I watched the show that year. Got your first cd "Coming Back to You"-love it! Gifted my brother with your cd for his birthday. Now he's a fan, too.

We enjoyed MJ's "This Is It". Michael's a gentle genius who left us too soon. We are privileged to have seen him in the practice sessions, and it felt good to know he was surrounded by people who love him.
